During winter, we often feel cold in our bodies and in our hearts. Overwhelmed and exhausted by our environment. There is this holiday rush, family, friends, all over, and then we are back to the harsh reality of our routine. Harsh? Who said our routine has to feel that way?

We spend more time complaining, feeling sorry for ourselves than actually giving ourselves a chance to do what we want to do. To be who we want to be. To feel how we want to feel.

Doesn’t that sound just plain amazing? Verging on too good to be true, doesn’t it? Well I am not just going to throw you out there, and let you tackle this issue all by yourselves. In this article I will share a few leads you can explore, to try and make a difference in your own little bubble of life.

  1. Happiness is a state of mind. It starts first thing in the morning when we wake up. Not all of us have the same needs. So we each have to find a little something that will make us smile, and feel good as soon as we rise. It can be as simple as choosing the right tune on our alarm clock. Out with the nerve racking ringing you inflict on your tender ears on a daily basis, just go with something you appreciate and change it regularly – even daily – so as not to get sick of it.
  2. Exercise releases endorphins and it makes you feel good. You know that, yet you just cannot even consider the idea of losing that precious half hour of sleep just to go for that dreaded morning run out in the cold. Don’t even get there. We tend to forget that a little goes a long way. You don’t need a daily thirty-minute run to feel good and healthy, not even twenty, but consider five. Can you do five? You probably can. Have the yoga mat ready and the soothing playlist. Get right out of bed and on that soft mat and stretch and give your body the five minutes it needs to ease into what is coming next.
  3. Get out there, close your door and smile. Just do it. Don’t wait until you get to work, and see familiar faces. Smile again on the bus, on the metro, or in your car, offer music you enjoy to your ears and tackle the day with the biggest smile you can shine. You might not charm everyone with your pearly whites, but I promise you, every now and then you will get a smile back that will make your day.

Spread that logic throughout the day and you will see how tiny little things just make the biggest differences.
